Lieutenant Commander Jeremy Michel Evain

Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Lieutenant Commander Jeremy Michel Evain joined the Royal Australian Navy in 2007. After completing initial training at the Naval College and navigation and warfare training at HMAS Watson, he achieved his primary qualification as a Seaman Officer in 2010 having completed sea time on HMA Ships Kanimbla and Yarra, and ASSAIL ONE.

In 2010, Lieutenant Commander Evain posted to patrol boat crew ASSAIL THREE as the Boarding Officer working across multiple platforms conducting Border Protection activities as part of Operation RESOLUTE. Whilst serving in HMAS Pirie his boarding team was awarded a Group Bravery Citation and Chief of Joint Operations Gold Group Commendation for their involvement in the rescue of personnel from Suspected Irregular Entry Vessel 221.

Lieutenant Commander Evain completed further sea service as an Officer of the Watch in HMA Ships Yarra, Gascoyne, Diamantina and Stuart. Lieutenant Commander Evain qualified as a Principal Warfare Officer specialising in surface warfare in 2017. He competed postings as both the Torpedo and Anti-Submarine Officer and Operations Officer in HMAS Stuart, primarily conducting operational tasking throughout Asia.

From 2019 to 2021 Lieutenant Commander Evain competed a posting at Maritime Operations, Headquarters Joint Operations Command as the primary operations planner for naval operations in the Indo-Pacific. During this posting he was awarded a Chief of Joint Operations Gold Commendation. LCDR Evain held command of two vessels previous to his current posting, HMA Ships Maitland and Wollongong.

Lieutenant Commander Evain is married to a Royal Australian Air Force Crew Attendant and together they have a daughter. He enjoys skydiving, skiing, rock climbing and camping in his spare time. Lieutenant Commander Evain is currently studying to attain a Masters in Strategy and Security with the University of New South Wales.

LCDR Evain assumed Command of ADV Cape Naturaliste in July 2022.
