The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) maintains a significant presence in South Queensland through HMAS Moreton, formerly Navy Headquarters - South Queensland, situated at Bulimba on the Brisbane River. HMAS Moreton is formally responsible for the coordination and administration of all RAN activity in Queensland south of the Tropic of Capricorn (near Rockhampton) including the organisation of ship visits by RAN and foreign naval vessels to Brisbane, Gladstone and Southport. HMAS Moreton also hosts visiting minor war vessels at the Navy’s wharf at Bulimba including Armidale Class Patrol Boats and Coastal Minehunters.

HMAS Moreton includes the highly respected Royal Australian Navy Band Queensland, Australian Naval Reserve Dive Team Eight, and Australian Naval Cadet Headquarters as lodgers and administers a large number of RANR personnel who work throughout the Fleet during operational taskings. HMAS Moreton also provides authority and support to the nineteen Naval Cadet Units throughout Queensland.

HMAS Moreton, formerly Navy Headquarters - South Queensland, was commissioned on 14 May 2016.

This is the second time that a naval establishment has been commissioned HMAS Moreton in the same location. A comprehensive history of the original HMAS Moreton is available from the Navy history section.
