Commander Michael Nipperess
Commander Michael Nipperess, RAN joined the Navy June 1985 as a General Entry Sailor. On completion of Recruit Training and Category Training Commander Nipperess was posted to HMAS Stalwart as a Quarter Master Gunner.
Commander Nipperess has served on HMA Ships Hobart, Tobruk, Newcastle, and Canberra, and Sea Training Group. Shore establishment postings have included Cerberus, Penguin, Albatross, Kuttabul, Creswell, Waterhen, Watson and 39OSB (Force Preparation Company).
Commander Nipperess progressed through the ranks to Warrant Officer Boatswain and applied for commission in October 2010 under Warrant Officer Entry Scheme, and later Maritime Combat Officer. On commissioning he posted to Watson as the Junior Warfare Officers Manager. He was subsequently selected as the Dock Officer in NUSHIP Canberra and promoted to Lieutenant Commander January 2013. He also took on the added role as First Lieutenant as Canberra joined the Fleet.
Upon completion of the three year posting to Canberra he joined Sea Training Group as Fleet Seamanship Officer for two years, prior to taking on the role as OIC Boatswain Faculty in January 2018.
In November 2018 he was selected as Executive Officer HMAS Kuttabul and promoted to Commander. In December 2020, he assumed duties as Deputy Commander Shore Force.
Commander Nipperess assumed Command of HMAS Penguin in November 2021.
