Warrant Officer Martin Holzberger
Warrant Officer of the Navy Martin Holzberger, AM, CSC joined the Royal Australian Navy as a direct entry Under Water Control Submariner from Brisbane, Queensland in 1987. After completing category training at HMAS Platypus, he joined HMAS Oxley completing various overseas deployments before it was decommissioned in 1991. After a short posting to HMAS Stirling and a deployment on HMAS Ovens, Leading Seaman Holzberger was selected for Collins Class Submarine conversion and subsequently as the commissioning crew of HMAS Collins.
In 1997 Petty Officer Holzberger was posted to the Submarine Escape Training Facility as an escape instructor, completing instructor training in the Royal Navy's submarine escape facility at Gosport, England.
After service in various roles on submarines HMAS Farncomb, and commissioning crew of HMAS Sheean, Chief Petter Officer Holzberger joined Sheean as the Chief of the Boat completing various South East Asia and RIMPAC deployments. In 2002 he joined Sea Training Group - Submarines, working up all six Collins Class submarines for various roles.
In 2004 Chief Petter Officer Holzberger was selected for exchange with the United States Navy (USN) working with the Commander of the Submarine Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he gained an in depth understanding and first hand experience in how the USN prepare, train and retain their personnel.
On promotion to Warrant Officer (WO) he returned to HMAS Stirling to take up the role as Manager of Sailors Training at Training Authority - Submarines (TA-SM).
In 2007 and after selection at the Ships' Warrant Officers Board, WO Holzberger successfully completed the single service component of the RAN Staff Course at Weston Creek, ACT. Later that year he joined HMAS Warramunga as the Ship's Warrant Officer deploying around Australia and to the Middle East Area of Operations for Operation SLIPPER Rotation 20.
WO Holzberger assumed the position of Command Warrant Officer - Fleet Command in March 2010. Later the same year he was recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List with a Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) for his service onboard HMAS Warramunga.
In July 2012 Warrant Officer Holzberger became the seventh Warrant Officer of the Navy.
