The RIM-162 Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) is an international venture being undertaken to develop and produce an improved version of the RIM-7P NATO SeaSparrow Missile. The ESSM has enhanced speed and manoeuvrability compared to the original SeaSparrow. The ESSM is launched from the Mark 41 Vertical Launching System installed in the Adelaide Class guided missile frigates, Anzac Class frigates and the new Hobart Class guided missile destroyers.
