Dr Natali Pearson is a DECRA fellow and a senior lecturer in heritage studies in the discipline of archaeology at the University of Sydney. 

Natali's DECRA Fellowship (2025 to 2027) focuses on Sunken Warships: Heritage diplomacy in maritime Southeast Asia. Her first book, Belitung: The Afterlives of a Shipwreck, was published in 2022. 

Natali is president of the Indonesia Council, a member of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Archaeological Heritage Management, and a councillor of the Australasian Institute for Maritime Archaeology

Previously, Natali worked in Asia-focused defence and anti-money laundering/counter-terrorism financing roles in the Australian federal government.
